In this unique supplement in the 2024-25 yearbook, Stanwood Middle School students captured the history, memories, and personality of SMS from the perspective of the school itself with the help of their teacher Mark Wayland and local community historians. The result is a truly special section that tells the story of the school from the perspective of the building itself.

In this heartfelt, imaginative narrative, the SMS building becomes the narrator — looking back on decades of Spartans passing through its halls, echoing with band concerts, locker slams, assemblies, and quiet in-between moments. It’s funny, reflective, and deeply moving.

“I may be made of brick, but I remember everything,” the building says in the opening lines. And it does — from the thrill of championship games in the gym to the quiet heartbreak of goodbyes, the school shares what it has seen, felt, and heard over generations.

The supplement is full of history, photos, and even interactive elements you can scan with your phone to unlock bonus content. It’s a love letter to the building, the community, and every student who’s ever called SMS home.
